My Final Term as a Boise City Council Member

Dear Friends and Supporters,

After months of thoughtful consideration, I have decided not to run for reelection to a third term on the Boise City Council.

In 2011, I chose to run for public office as an opportunity to give back, serve and contribute to the betterment of our community. I have enjoyed serving for the past two terms and I’m proud of what we have accomplished. The decision not to run again will allow me to spend more quality time with my family, advance my professional career and serve my community in other ways.

Thanks to the hard work and dedication of my colleagues, our city employees, engaged citizens and the visionary leaders who came before us, Boise has truly become one of the most livable cities in the country. From the addition of the new branch Library! at Bown Crossing and several new and soon-to-be-built fire stations and training facility, to the Anti-Discrimination Ordinance and the Energize Our Neighborhoods Initiative, supporting startup efforts like Trailhead and initiating Boise Competes, to the purchase and protection of hundreds of additional acres in the Boise Foothills, I am humbled and blessed to have had the privilege to serve and contribute for the past six years in pursuit of our shared vision.

Our work, however, is not finished. There is much more to do. As I finish my term over the next seven months, I will continue focusing on making decisions that advance Boise’s mission to create lasting environments, cultivate innovative enterprises and build vibrant communities.

From major downtown projects like a new main Boise Public Library! and a multi-use stadium, to a modern transportation system that puts people first, and a future where better access to care and services are available to people who suffer from chronic homelessness and mental illness, I look forward to seeing what our current and future community leaders will accomplish for the good of us all. I am confident the best is yet to come for this great place we call home.

Fortunately, Boise is full of passionate, service-minded people who want to make a positive difference. I hope and trust the right person will serve in my seat in 2018 and beyond.

Thank you for supporting and believing in me to serve two terms on the Boise City Council.

With tremendous gratitude, Ben
